Abstract
A clinical review was made on the single and bilateral bundle branch blocks which were found in electrocardiographic findings on 6,304 cases examined in Chung Ang University, Sacred Heart Hospital for 3 years and 5 months from January 1970 to May 1973. The obtained result were as follows:
1) The bundle branch blocks, regardless their type, were found in 83 cases among 6,304 cases. The incidence of each bundle branch block presented as follows: ICRBBB was 0.38% (24 cases), CRBBB 0.12% (8 cases), CRBBB+LAH 0.22% (14 cases), CRBBB+LPH 0.44% (28 cases) and CLBBB 0.14% (9 cases).
2) The bundle branch blocks were found in 58 (1.9%) among 2,981 cases of male patients and 25 among 3,323 cases of female patients. The most common type of bundle, branch blocks in male was incomplete right bundle branch block in incidence of 29% (17/58), and in female complete right bundle branch block associated with left posterior herniblock in 48% (12/25).
3) Incomplete right bundle branch block was more common below 40 years of age and the other complete bundle branch blocks above 51 years.
4) Abnormal electrocardiographic findings associated with bundle branch blocks were commonly developed left ventricular hypertrophy, atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular contraction and sinus tachycardia etc.
5) The most common cause of bundle branch blocks was hypertension and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The other underlying causes of bundle branch blocks were psychoneurotic, respiratory, unknown disorders, and arteriosclerotic heart disease.
